Timp Rental was formed in March of 1979, by John W. Phelon Sr. and was managed by Steven W. Phelon, John’s son. John received his bachelor degree from Brigham Young University in marketing. He also received a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the American International College of Springfield Massachusetts. He moved to Utah from Massachusetts after successfully owning and operating several fruit farms in western Massachusetts. He also owned a retail store in Connecticut, Flavor Mount Fruit. His wife, Kathryn R. Phelon, had a major role in the success of John’s businesses especially in the area of bookkeeping.

In May of 1982, Timp Rental expanded its operations to include a store in Vernal, UT. The Vernal location was managed by Steven while the Orem location was managed by Dale Pitts. The Orem store relocated to a more centralized location at 155 West 800 North, Orem,Utah, in 1983. Daniel R. Phelon became the manager of Timp Rental in 1989.

In 1980, Timp Rental became a Jartran Truck rental agent. In 1982, Timp became a Ryder Truck rental agent and in 1987 received the dealer of excellence award. In that same year, Timp was the largest Ryder truck rental agent in the intermountain states. The moving truck division of Timp Rental was made into a separate corporation on February 18, 1987, and it was named Move-it Rental Center, Inc. James M. Phelon managed the truck division from 1983 to June of 1987. In 1990, Move-it Rental Center, Inc. became the authorized truck rental dealer for Penske Truck Leasing Corp in Utah County. Property in American Fork, UT. was purchased in 1995, and a branch store of Timp Rental was opened in June of 1996 at 136 N. West State Road, American Fork, UT. The American Fork store is managed by Joseph M. Phelon.

Timp Rental Center was incorporporated on April 28, 1995. Later that year, Timp Rental's founder, John W. Phelon Sr., died. Both Timp Rental Center Inc. and Move-it Rental Inc. are managed by Paul D. Phelon, Daniel R. Phelon, and Joseph M. Phelon. Timp Rental is a member of the American Rental Association, Provo-Orem Chamber of Commerce, American Fork Chamber of Commerce, Lehi Area Chamber of Commerce, Corporate Alliance, and has been featured in Orem’s chamber of commerce magazine and the official Ryder Truck magazine.

Timp Rental will accomplish this vision by renting and selling highly maintained, reliable, safe, clean, products with an emphasis on friendly and fast service. In addition to our existing products and services, we will continue to introduce new and innovative products and services to provide the right equipment for the job.
